What is an ASD Cluster Classroom?

An ASD Cluster Classroom is a specialized learning environment designed for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder who benefit from a more structured setting than a traditional classroom. These classrooms provide individualized support to help children succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. At West Hollywood Elementary, we have an ASD Cluster Classroom for Kindergarten and 1st grade students.

What makes it unique?

  • Structured and Predictable: The classroom is organized into clear areas for different activities, creating a calm and consistent routine that helps students feel secure.
  • Visual Supports: Tools like visual schedules and check-in boards guide students through their day, promoting independence and reducing anxiety.
  • Personalized Instruction: Teachers use proven programs and strategies tailored to each child’s needs, focusing on communication, social skills, and academics.
  • Positive Behavior Support: Encouragement and proactive strategies help students develop appropriate behaviors and coping skills.
  • Small Group Setting: With a low student-to-teacher ratio and paraprofessional support, every child receives the attention and guidance they need.

Our goal is to create a safe, nurturing environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive at their own pace.
